Vintage Design
The “First Chair” is considered one of the most famous design classics and can be found in almost every design collection. The chair is a design of the Italian architect and designer Michele de Lucchi (1951) for Memphis Milano, Italy 1983. The Memphis design group was initiated in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass. The most famous members of the Memphis Group were u.a. Michele de Lucchi, Martine Bedin, or Matteo Thun. Memphis created numerous, imaginative designs as a counter-reaction to the high-tech design of the 1970s. Geometric basic shapes such as cones, ball, or the cube were often combined with each other and combined with geometric plastic laminates and strong colors. Our “First Chair” is an early edition for Memphis Milano. Metal, silver gray painted, back and seat wood, armrests wooden balls, painted black. Manufacturer designation on the bottom of the seat. Good condition with some significant traces of use resulting from contacts with a top edge. All in all, the chair is in an absolutely acceptable condition. Seat height 45cm.
