Vintage Design
Sculptural qualities define this object. A vivid dynamic between the different volumes and surfaces, showing different qualities from different angles. Its expressive form offers a complex composition shaped by light and shadows. That is a one-of-a-kind piece – unique and outstanding, it holds a museum exhibit quality. An artefact for collectors and connoisseurs. A piece without any compromises. Highly valuable, rarely even offered by auction houses. However, it comes with a price. This piece originates from São Paulo residential buildings. The dominant feature of the silhouette is the iron hairpin frame, together with the wood support of the seat, which introduce dynamic into the shape. Radical approach in design is expressed through experimental use of different materials – iron, wood and upholstery. Although stiff at first sight, the shape is playful and liberated, which is no wonder, as Lina Bo Bardi had her own aesthetic language which was shaped by different influences, with an accent on vernacular architecture. Apart from the upholstery which was redone according to the original technique, all parts are authentic and in their original condition, with soft restorations. I think the piece blends well with many interior styles. As a chair with a strong industrial character and an unusual shape, it is an excellent addition to each space.
